Weight Loss with Fish Oil
When people think of a diet, the first thing they normally do is cut out refined carbohydrates, fats and other high-calorie foods from their daily intake. However to remain healthy your body still needs some quantity of the right fats. Most fats must go off your daily diet, but there are others that are necessary both for losing weight and making you healthy. The body does convert carbohydrates and proteins into fatty acids that are saturated or monounsaturated. It, however, cannot produce any polyunsaturated fats that are essential for the body. These are called EFAs or essential fatty acids and must come from what you eat.
Essential Fatty Acids are also as Omega-3 and Omega-6 Fatty Acids. They are polyunsaturated fatty acids. They can be found in fish and from vegetable such as walnuts, hemp seeds, flax seeds, canola oil and olive oil. These EFAs produce eicosanoids during the digestion. These are hormones that regulate digestion, production of insulin and fat storage.
Fish oil and Weight Loss
Research has concluded that the Omega-3 fatty acids, contained in fish oil, activate the endocrine glands that produce enzymes, to produce one that can burn fat. If this is combined with some form of exercise that increases the oxygen intake, then the metabolic rate increases and this burns up fat and helps you to lose weight. The increase in metabolism ensures that you burn up calories even if you are resting.
It has also been established by researchers that study groups fed a dose of fish oil capsules regularly everyday, showed a significant reduction in weight after three weeks as well as an increase in metabolic rate. The people being studied were given a similar diet and half of them received supplements of 6 grams of fat in the form of butter and other oils, while the second group was given 6 grams of fish oil, in the form of 8 capsules per day split over three sessions.
The group that was having fish oil as part of their diet showed a 26% increase in their ability to burn fat, compared to the other group who used normal diet inclusions of butter and other oils. It was established that the Omega-3 fish oil consumers had insulin levels that were almost half of that of the other group.
Insulin is a hormone that reduces the use of fat for fuel, and helps to store fat whenever the calories consumed are more than those required by the body. So the lower insulin meant that less fat was stored and more fat was used for energy, thus promoting the weight loss.
Hormone-sensitive lipase is inhibited by insulin. Lipase is instrumental in breaking down the fat which is stored in the body and making it suitable to be used as energy. Insulin also with fatty acid synthesis and an enzyme that it activates, also converts carbohydrate into fat. So, high levels of insulin make it unlikely that the fat in the body is used for energy, while low levels will allow this to happen and thus burn away the fat that is stored in the body by using it as energy. This will reduce your weight.
In fact, you can also take some weight loss pills besides the use of fish oil in your diet. This will help to reduce weight a lot faster.
